Please note that these positions are now full, but feel free to read on as a guide to the sort people we are looking for.
Loft is a massively geeky, inventive, high-tech digital agency, and we’re growing fast. We love great code, but even more than that, we love the amazing things we can do with it.
This month, we’re looking for two new, like-minded LAMP Developers to come and join us in Shoreditch. You’ll be right in the thick of it from day one, working with our other developers, as well as our creative, UX and front-end teams, on a family of brand new web apps we are creating for a client.
What will you be doing?
At Loft, we like to tailor each team member’s job to the things they enjoy and do best. Some of the things you may be doing include:
- Working with PHP, MySQL, Zend, various APIs and frameworks
- Building new websites and applications, and new features for existing projects
- Reviewing and improving existing code
- Creating, extending and optimising database schemas
- Exploring application design/structure for major new projects
- Reviewing and testing other team members’ code
- Writing and testing upgrade scripts
- Exploring ideas with the rest of the team to solve technical and user problems
- Learning and using the best and latest open source development tools, such as Selenium, phpUnderControl, Nagios – and recommending new ones for us to use
Skills, knowledge and experience
At Loft, we value talent over experience – but there are some skills you will definitely need to get off to a good start:
- Fluent PHP5 OOP
- Fluent MySQL
- Understanding of MySQL injection, XSS, and other common security loopholes
- Understanding and experience of MVC patterns
- Reasonable JavaScript, XHTML and CSS
Some of the following could be handy:
- Mobile frameworks
- Social media APIs
- Zend framework
- jQuery
- HTML5, CSS3
- Database normalisation and optimisation
- Experience with open source projects, such as Drupal, Magento and Joomla
- Aptana/Zend Studio/PDT IDE
- Apache admin
- Linux admin
- Debugging, for example using Xdebug
- Code profiling
And we always smile when someone mentions:
- Involvement in an open source or personal project
- Design patterns
- Automated functional testing
- Unit testing, eg with PHPUnit
- Continuous integration
So what next?
If you like the sound of this, send your CV – or whatever you have – to jobs@loftdigital.com, not forgetting to include links to projects you have worked on with some explanation about what you did. If you use GitHub, Google Code or something similar, don’t forget to point us to that too.
Agencies
Please don't call us about this position - we are already working with selected agencies. However, if you have a candidate who you believe is genuinely exceptional and and excellent match for Loft's culture, feel free to send their full details to the above address, together with your terms of business.
